Golf is a wonderful sport, having millions of fans from all over the world. It is a game where participants hit a small ball with a special club, trying to get it to a hole which is very far away from the starting point. the game starts in an area called “teeing ground”, and continues into the second area, “putting green”, at the end of which the target hole is located. the aim of the game is to get the ball from the teeing ground through the green into the hole in the smaller number of hits possible. One round means going through eighteen “greens”.

There are two ways to play this game… First: the winner is the one who wins at the most holes (this is called match play) and second, the winner is the one who finishes one round with the least amount of strokes (stroke play).

Golf is often called the “gentlemen sport”. because of this, there are certain moral rules to obey when one plays this game. Politeness is a requirement for each player. here are some suggestions on how to behave while on the golf course:

- the honor of playing the first ball is awarded to the player that currently has the lowest score – always check the distance and position of player groups that are in front of you. only hit the ball after you – make sure that you can’t accidentally hit one of the persons in front of you. – be prepared to play the ball when it’s your turn. nobody likes it when an adversary stalls the game because he didn’t realize it was going to be his turn next. – have a respectful attitude towards the group behind you. if you are at par 3, it is advised to channel the ball towards the green, mark and invite the following group to go on with their game. – be careful not to deteriorate the green in any way. – do not start chatting with your partner or with another player when somebody is preparing his shot. – when you are waiting for a player that is preparing his shot, do not stand near him and do not make sudden movements. – don’t enter the golf course if you are not dressed properly. – you shouldn’t bring pets to the golf course, even if they have muzzles on – you shouldn’t smoke on the golf course – don’t bring gadgets that could disturb your fellow players (phones, cd-players etc) – don’t enter the golf course if you are under the influence, and don’t drink alcohol while on the green

Keep these rules in mind when you go golfing, because otherwise you lose the real feel of this sport. Have fun!
